Search and Navigate the Web

With Flock, moving around the web has never been easier. After learning the basics of navigating the web with a browser here, be sure to learn about some of Flock's Enhanced Search Tools.

Use the Location Bar to Navigate

  1. Click on the Location Bar and delete the current contents using the delete key.
  2. Tip: You can always quickly select the entire URL in the Location Bar by pressing CTRL+L (Cmd+L on a Mac). Then press delete or simply type.

  3. Enter the URL (web address) of the page you want to visit.
    Tip: The Location Bar has a built-in search tool and auto-complete ability. After using Flock for a while, you can find old sites you've visited simply by starting to type their addresses.
  4. If you don't know the URL, type a name or subject into the Location Bar. Flock will show you the addresses from your browsing history, favorites and tags which most closely match.

  6. Arrow down to select the suggested address, or complete typing the address (or press Enter to search for the term using your default search engine).
  7. After completing the URL, press the Enter (Return) key on your keyboard, or click the right arrow at the right side of the Location Bar to go to the website address.

Use the Location Bar History Menu

  1. Click on the black triangle at the right side of the Location Bar to open a drop-down menu which lists all the web addresses you've recently entered.

  3. Arrow down to select any of the addresses to revisit that website.

Move Forward and Back

  1. Click the back or forward arrow in the Navigation Toolbar to go back or forward one page through web pages you've already visited.

  2. To see a list of pages you've visited since you last opened Flock, right-click (CTRL-click on Mac) on the back or forward arrow.
  3. Right-Click on Arrow History
  4. A list of pages you recently visited appears. Select the page you'd like to visit again.

Reload and Stop

  1. Click the Reload button to refresh the content of the current page, if you suspect the page may have updated since you started reading it.

  3. While a page is being reloaded, the Reload button has an X on it. Click the X to stop the page from being loaded. (This is handy if it's taking too long.)
  4. Try holding down the CTRL key while pressing the Reload button if the web page does not seem to be updating as it should.

Search the Web Using the Flock Search Widget

  1. Click in the Flock Search Widget, which is located to the right of the Location Bar.

  3. Type search terms to search the internet, favorites and recently visited sites. Top-rated results are returned automatically.
  4. Search the Internet
  5. Press the Enter key to go directly to the default search engine website for more results.

Search the Web by Selecting Text

  1. Click and drag to highlight the text in a web page that you would like to search for.
  2. Right-click (CTRL-click on Mac) on the text and select Search... from the drop-down menu.

  4. Flock searches for the selected words using your default search engine.

Search for Text within a Web Page

  1. Click anywhere in the web page you'd like to search.
  2. Open the Edit menu and choose Find. (If the page contains frames, you may need to click within a frame before you begin your search.)
  3. The Find Toolbar appears at the bottom of the Flock window.
  4. Find Text on a Page
  5. Type the text you want to find in the Find Toolbar.
  6. Choose Next to find matching text that is below the current cursor position.
  7. Choose Highlight All to highlight all occurrences of the text in the current page.
  8. Choose Match Case to find only text whose capitalization matches what you typed. .
