Last Update, I Promise: Flock 2.5.2 is now available from our front door. It contains the latest Firefox security patch, the latest version of Flash, a fix for the Facebook Notifications Menu bug, and a fix for the Flickr/Yahoo! Mail conflict. Download and run the installer to manually upgrade; we'll be working on getting auto-updates out to you soon.

Update: It looks like we'll be able to have the Facebook fix (as well as the Yahoo! Mail/Flickr fix & the latest Firefox security patch) all rolled up and delivered to you as 2.5.2 sometime next week, assuming we don't run into any gnarly bugs. We'll keep you informed.

Update 2: The folks at Tabs Mix Plus have informed us that, regrettably, they do not and will not support Flock, so anyone running this extension will continue to have issues. There is already one alternative extension suggestion posted in the comments...please speak up if you have a recommendation!

Hey Flockstars,

Tabs Mix Plus, an extension for Firefox, issued an automatic update to their extension sometime in the last 24 hours. While it probably works great in Firefox, it appears they didn't test in Flock. Thus, Flock with Tabs Mix Plus v 0.3.8 installed will not load pages or show tabs..

We have and will continue to reach out to the Tabs Mix Plus team. In the meantime, to get Flock working you will need to disable Tabs Mix Plus:

1. Open Flock
2. Go to Tools>Addons
3. Go to the Extensions tab
4. Select Tabs Mix Plus
5. Click "Disable"
6. Restart Flock

We'll let you know as soon as there is an update for the extension that works in Flock.

There is also a bug currently causing the Facebook notifications menu in the lower right of the browser to show up blank. We have created a fix for this but unfortunately it cannot be sent invisibly over the air, it must be bundled in a browser update. We're working to get this fix and several others out to you as soon as possible...more info on this as I have it.

hello!
Thank you for the tips now I can keep flock and working without the pain of been bug by facebook.

Phew! Thanks for that update. I thought I did something really foolish with Flock! I hope you get that thing working soon!

I have had trouble with Tab Mix Plus on Flock in the past, so I dumped it and installed the Tab Focus addon instead, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7955/.

I like to switch tab focus on mouse over, and this does the job as well as Tab Mix Plus.

Hey folks,

In case you didn't see the update I posted above:

Ok, Thank you i was really really worried about that :D

if you need help i would be glad to help you :D

Okay, that's weird: I have that problem (I think), dating from exactly when Tab Mix Plus updated on Firefox... but, much to my surprise, I don't appear to have TMP installed on Flock.

What the Flock?

The behavior I'm seeing is that clicking on entries in the "My World" sidebar... brings up a new empty tab, rather than a new tab with the appropriate link in it.

If I hold down shift, I get a new Flock window with the correct URL.

I'll have to disable the NewTabURL extension and see if that does the trick.

that definitely IS regrettable, re: TabMixPlus, and I hope someone will step up with something similar for Flock. I continue to find it consternating, to the Bizarre, just how few addons are made/tested for Flock use, given the obvious advantages of Flock with its social networking features. I'm a dedicated user, myself, for my activities with Flickr, Meetup, Photoworkshop, Yahoo, AOLmail, not to mention keeping track of my blog. Thanks for developing Flock to the essential tool it is, for me, today.

Try this
very useful tool like tabMix

it's Work Great

well i cannot access my people toolbar flock cannot remember the facebook account

"Hey Flockstars,
Tabs Mix Plus, an extension for Firefox, issued an automatic update"

There was NO AUTOMATIC UPDATE issued unless Flock sucks so bad that it doesn't give it's users the option to install the updates they choose to update. Sheesh, get real and learn how to be honest about your crapola POS of a browser!

Flock is built ON Firefox -- Flock coders need to learn how to become Firefox addon compatible. It's really not that hard to comprehend but it seems that the Flock coders find it very difficult to do--they'd rather blame the addon authors (of which there are thousands) for their own shortcomings.

Flock needs to stop the blaming and admit that their lack of skill is the problem.

@Ray: That shouldn't happen, but if you haven't been able to resolve it drop me an email and we'll investigate it.

@Q8: Thanks for the recommendation!

@Ekow: Hm, I haven't heard any other reports of this. Shoot me an email and I'll see what I can do.

@Chief Scientist: I apologize for the mis-use of words - you are correct, it was an upgrade notification, not a forced upgrade. The result for our community was still negative, regardless...they did not know that the new version of Tabs Mix Plus would cause issues in Flock.

Flock is based off of Firefox technology but is not exactly the same code, and we've never claimed to be. It's a developer's choice to not test on Flock...if they do decide to support Flock we do our best to provide personal support is making their extension Flock-compatible, but I see no reason why a developer should expect their extension to behave exactly the same with a different browser. Again, if a developer does not want to support Flock that is fine - but we must do what's in the best interest of our community in regards to malfunctioning extensions.

Thank you for clarifying things for Chief Scientist. I saw his comments last night and was too tired to comment at that time. One look at the interface of Flock should tell someone that it is not exactly like Firefox. To me, that is the main failure of extensions since they do not take Flock's interface into account. I am not an extension developer and I agree with you that it is their choice and the only way to obtain support for Flock is for users of Flock and that extension to ask for it. Eventually, enough requests may be submitted that Flock will be supported. I have been using a Gecko based browser since the Mozilla Suite (then SeaMonkey, KMeleon, Firefox, Flock). I am not what you would deem a social person in cyberspace, but have found Flock to include many features that make what I do socially a breeze. And I love the RSS reader. And Flock is solid enough to be used for serious projects, too. I am a web master for a local car club and have been maintaining the site via Flock. More themes would be nice, but it is slick looking right out of the box.

What people need to keep in mind is the level of sophistication involved in what is under the hood. The Flock team has done a fantastic job of integrating essential tools into the browser without hampering performance. And I have found Flock to be better at resource management at the OS level. I will step off my soap box now. :)

Thank you for listening to the end users and for taking the time and effort to create a fantastic browser!

the one thing that hasn't been addressed yet is that the flickr-people sidebar still keeps popping up as soon as any flickr page opens.
really annoying if you are in the rss feeds sidebar, click something that has a flickr link in it, and lose the whole rss feed sidebar.
or if you are on a netbook making your page even smaller than it already was..

I was having the same problems with Tab Mix Plus, so I just uninstalled it and then reinstalled the last working flock-compatible version, 3.7.3.
Works fine with 2.5.2.
here's a direct link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/versions/1122#version-0.3.7.3

On one computer with version 2.5, I was not offered to update to 2.5.1...I checked for updates, and none are available.

On a different computer that I had installed 2.5.1 on, (via "Check for Update") I don't see that 2.5.2 is available.

Is there any way to turn off the "Facebook chat across all tabs?" I don't want to see it in all tabs? I want to see it in Facebook, and when I close a Facebook tab, I don't want to still have chat open, but I don't want to have to logon and logoff every time I close Facebook.

Thanks

why you no send a email when launch a new update???

thanks

My flock works fine now... Thanks for the update..

Hello Evan,

My Flock is now automatically updated to 2.5.2.

However, there is something that I always wanted to mention to you. There is a problem that I have and I am not sure if its a Flock problem or something is wrong with my PC.

The internet connection I have, it sometimes stop to work. That is, I am still connected to the ISP but there is no browsing or internet activity happening.

When that happens, Flock starts to act strange and it simply hangs up. Sometimes this do not happen at all.

I leave my PC on all the time but because of this issue, I have to restart and reopen all pages in my PC :(

Any comments Evan?

@erick: Have you "remembered" your Flickr account in Flock? Once remembered, it shouldn't pop open.

@dennis: Thanks for the tip!

@S!ick: We turn auto-updates on in bursts in order to make sure they're working properly. They should be on 100% now - please let us know if you're still not getting the update.

@Chris Lehmann: Yup, you can turn of Facebook chat in Flock by following these steps: http://flock.com/faq/show/61#q_84535

@Ramon: We were busy with other things this time, but I will keep that in mind for next time...thanks for letting us know you find that useful!

@a1newspapers: Shoot me an email about this and we can troubleshoot.

I install Flock 2.5.2 in my mac, and now I have a lot of problems: the social buttons no change color tu orange, Facebook NO work with social button, etc, etc, etc... I am really disappointed by this new version, with the version 2.5.1 no type of problem had experimented
Thanks

@ramon: Sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues. I haven't heard these reported by others so there may be something wrong on your specific installation of Flock. Shoot me an email and I will help you troubleshoot.

Thanks!

When will be able to get a new version of flock which is part of Firefox 3.5.x series ?

Hi

When will there be other languages versions of the new version of Flock? (French for example)

Thank you.

I downloaded 2.5.2 yesterday and used facebook chat all day, no matter what I was doing it worked great. Last night it disappeared, today still gone ...

I send a email any past days, I no get answer, Thanks
ramonjosegn@zenbe.com

the Flock team is preparing a series of volunteers for the translation of Flock to several languages, for the time being only it is available in English, my intention is to be able to do the translation to the Galician

Thanks for the info :) I uninstalled Flock then reinstalled the newer version - old habit from the Firefox days when fresh installs per update seemed to have no problems compared to updating... never knew why but was told to do it and it worked.

I don't use many (if any bar a dictionary and web dev toolbar) Fx add-ons in flock, flock already has everything I need, cheers! Even the default theme is nice which makes a change for a mozilla based browser.

Wow, its nice to hear that. Its been looking for this stuff, I will try this as soon as possible.

There's a problem with Flock. On my machine, it says I'm not logged into Facebook when I am. This glitch happens every once in a while. I have to go to the website for it to say that I am logged in. Can you fix this?

I'm just using flock and loving it. I use firefox and opera, now flock. I'll use another tab solution then tab mix plus, its much easier to use the same in flock and firefox rather then learning two different ones, that is part of the appeal of flock and firefox.

Hey, Chief Scientist. You got your facts wrong. Compatibility is a function of the extension, not the browser. This is a mistake in how Firefox was designed and the extensions are programmed and has nothing to do with Flock. And it is the same issue with any other browser based on Firefox. In short, you are an idiot. I suppose you probably work for Microsoft?

Hi,

This is not 100% relevant, but there is a Flock support added to FavBackup software (browser data backup).

http://www.favbrowser.com/backup/

Some might find this useful.

I don't know about other users but I tried TabMixPlus and the latest version (0.3.8.2pre091012) works perfectly fine with Flock. Good to have this extension back! Been using Flock since alpha stages and it's changed heaps! Keep up the good work.

One thing that does bug me is the amount of RAM that Flock seems to use. When I start it up, it sits around 90MB or so. General browsing, facebook, google, blogs etc are all fine but once in a while, the program will just freeze up and the blue waiting circle will spin. I check task manager again and Flock is using around 450-500MB. Even after closing all the tabs it is still sitting around the 400MB mark, the only solution is to close everything down and restart.

But otherwise, excellent work.

I've never gotten any autoupdate offered, not once.

Is there any way to remove the list all tabs button?

@Nobo: We're working on many localizations, including French. Hang in there (or email bryan at flock dot com if you want to help.

@L Aldrich: Yeah, the Facebook issues are back. You can keep up to date on them at: http://getsatisfaction.com/flock/topics/facebook_chat_issues

@Steven: We're aware of this "default logged out" issue and hope to fix it in the next version. Hang in there!

@Jezzza: Shoot me a line about your RAM usage, I'll see if I can help.

@Tom K: What version of Flock are you using? Auto-updates usually go out a few weeks after a new version comes out, so it may not be abnormal that you don't have it yet.

I'm using 2.5.5 now, but I've never *ever* gotten any auto-updates at all. Strange but true.

Facebook notifications doesn't have a scroll bar anymore for me, started a couple of days ago.

Now I am testing my website more easily. Thank you for this flock'a. I like the flock!
