While we often think of social media as a way to connect with our broad circle of friends, its influence has gone beyond the bounds of entertainment and communication to truly democratize information and to transform “readers” and “consumers” into publishers. Flock celebrates the diversity of human self-expression by making it simple to participate, publish and “write to the web” from your browser.

soul of the new machine logoOn May 4th and 5th, leading human rights advocates, journalists, and scientists will convene at The Soul of the New Machine conference being held on the U.C. Berkeley campus.  The conference will look at how technology can empower human rights around the world. Conference participants will explore how new developments in science and technology can be applied to human rights evidence gathering and analysis, advocacy, and outreach. The conference participants will learn about the latest advancements in mobile technologies and new media and how these systems have already been applied to expose war crimes and other serious violations of human rights and to disseminate this information in real time throughout the world.

I have to admit that when I think about potential technological tools that can be used for humanitarian efforts, social sites are not the first thing that would've occured to me. But this sounds like an awesome project, really glad to see people using technology in creative ways.

Recent innovations in science and technology have provided human rights advocates, journalists, and scientists with new tools to expose war crimes and other serious violations of human rights and to disseminate this information in real time throughout the world.

btw. Melissa Carnay created social network on Ning for this conference.

I want to know how this thing is helping your business as it is powered by Mozilla?

Also tell me how do you use Flock to get social?

We should thanks to the inventors of world wide web or the internet because, they change the live how the people live in this planet, and we benefited to their endeavors. We are very lucky to be born in digital age.

I love this browser...that's true...
But yet Flock has to develop more in a few fields.
In Bangladesh, we got slow internet speed. Often the connection is disrupted due to a few technical reasons.
As flock can't regain the file from the last downloaded condition, many people avoids this nice browser.
Yet, it is not furnished with various skins...so sometimes it seems to be tiresome.

Hey, Flocksters.....What can be done..?......

We are very lucky to be born in digital age
..

I completely agree with you. Flock is a great browser but need to do more in order to compete with firefox.

Celebrity

Social media has evolved in to something very few people would have expected.

Businessmen, marketing masters, writters, actors, and what ever else you can think of have moved in, seen the potential, and are now better people for it, so it has to be good.

The diversity has opened many eyes to the possibility of social success. We have ALL become "niche-people" because of social media. Every kind of person, group, society, and crazy person now has a place they can go and share with other like minded people!

The power of Flock can benefit a LOT of people, and that is a great plus for makers and users. We know we are all becoming more social-able (mostly alone in front of our PC or laptop), so time is money are great tools like flock are exactly what social people need.

Wishing you great social success!
Sincerely,
John

It has been stunning to watch over the last few years how the Internet and the nature of content on the Internet has evolved. And ti is almost impossible to imagine what it is going to be in another few years. The dynamic energy in the software development community is something worth noticing!

I must say I have not thought much about social web 2.0 sites in this way, and I do think it is a good idea. However I am not sure how much free speech and communication or exposure of crimes etc...they will have, as even china has already placed bans on Twitter use, and I feel web 2.0 sites will get monitored heavily by government in days to come.

Your article is relevant to someone like me. Up until about 2 months ago, I did not know much about social networking sites. Now that I have spent some time to learn and get more info about them, I can see the power of these sites or even communities.

I agree that social media is a broad way to connect people. It would be better if you give the detail information on how Flock empowers our social action.
