Last Wednesday I went to Victoria, BC to visit our newest engineers as they were literally about to get the keys for what I like to call "Flock Northern HQ". That's right, we're setting up a work igloo up here in the hinterlands. My goal was to make some media 'aboot' it and cover the story.

"Canadian office?" you say. That's right! Flock has always had a strong Canadian presence. Lloyd, Raj and myself are all from the Great White North; and we just added four fresh and def Canadian engineers to the team. They're going to work out of their home city of Victoria, British Columbia.

Well things didn't go as planned. On Wednesday night I broke the first rule of smart travel and tried a new kind of shellfish-based dish, called a BC curry. It must have been the oysters because about noon on Thursday I came down with the worst food poisioning I've ever experienced. I'm talking bad, like in retrospect I probably should have went to the hospital bad. After carefully taking care of myself over the weekend I'm back to mostly OK health.

I'm here to tell those oysters they can't can't stop Flock North and that's just that. More on Flock North will be forthcoming, but I just wanted to let you all know that we have this oyster thing under wraps now.

Will, you must know that Victoria isn't exactly the Hinterlands. I don't think it ever falls below freezing there. And you can see The States (well, the mountains, anyway) from there, so it's not that isolated...

Awesome! Canada Rocks!

Sorry to hear about the oysters...you should have taken a lesson from Mariah Carey.

Flock on.

Flock in Canada? Are there geese mascots in the Victoria office?

I wrote my own take on this story not knowing that Will -- of course -- was doing an awesome job telling the tale!

I think the geese will have a hard time getting Mascot over Rosco, Richard's impossible-to-resist-loving shitzu pup.

Ugh... I know what you mean about oysters. That usually happens to me when I go at them on an empty stomach. Anyway, if that was me, I'd spend my healing time in front of my MacBook. With Flock of course.

Good luck to the new team!

If you ever travel out to the Nevada desert to open an office in Vegas, here's another thing NOT to do:

Go to the old part of Vegas, walk into one of the *steak* houses located on a top floor with a nice *view* and then go ahead and order *fish*! I was on Business in Vegas and someone from the customer side did this... Yeah, you guessed it -- the next day he was white as a sheet and had to walk out of the meetings every half hour.

Let me know if you ever come to the East Coast to open a Boston office though. My wife cooks a mean salmon :-)
