Unable to browse since latest update

Since, I restarted Flock after the latest update. I am unable to browse using Flock. I am receiving a message "Problem Loading Page" "Server not found".

I have no problem with Firefox 2.0.0.14. I've turned off my firewall and Flock still does allow me to browse.

Please help.

Thank you, in advance.

Vernon

Hi Vernon,

Thank you so much for letting us know. This definitely shouldn't happen! Do you mind un-installing Flock as a program (Add/Remove Programs) and then installing it again? When you do this, please don't delete your profile folder, unless you want to lose all of your personal information.

This should do the trick. If not, it may not be a Flock problem. But please give it a try and we'll go from there.

Thanks for your patience,

Hi Jen,

I reinstalled Flock using the original file I downloaded (flock-1.2.1.en-US.win32.exe). I browsed for a few minutes and it was fine.

I then clicked on "Check for update" under the Help Menu on Flock. It installed the update, then I received a pop-up asking me to re-start Flock. Clicked on the re-start button, but Flock did not come up. I then started it from the Icon on my Desktop.

I am now having the same problem. I am not able to browse using Flock v1.2.4

Is there anything else I can try, or should I just use the previous version?

Thanks,

Vernon

Vernon,
If you uninstall flock again, download the latest version (1.2.4) from the flock website (http://www.flock.com/download), install it and try again. If that works then great. If not then we will at lease know it's not just a result of the update process and we can troubleshoot from there. Also, after you uninstall flock can you take a look in c:\program files\flock\... and let Jen and myself know if there are any files left over.
Thank you for being so patient.
Hopefully we'll get you flocking again soon :)

After looking into this with Vernon we narrowed it down to it being a firewall issue. If anyone else experiences a "Server Not Found" error after updating it is probably due to strict firewall settings. Many firewalls allow you to add exceptions for applications that you want to be able to have internet access. This is done based on the executable (usually flock.exe). After an update, that executable changes (to the new version) and the firewall might now let it access the internet as it does not look like the executable that it remembers and could be some malicious software mascaraing as the the old software (even if it's not).
At this point you simply have to update your firewall rules to point at the new executable (flock.exe on windows).

There is an excellent article HERE that might help you if you are experiencing similar symptoms.
