Facebook status doesn't update with new Facebook layout

Hi. I'm new to Flock and I love it. Keep up the good work, especially on Linux. :-)

I think the new Facebook layout may be causing problems with the Flock status updater from the People bar. I haven't tried the beta version, but when I use the old layout my status updates fine, but when I switch to the new Facebook layout, the status updater doesn't work anymore. The next time the People sidebar refreshes, the status there goes back to what was and my actual profile never changes.

I am using the 1.2.2 on Ubuntu 8.04 from the GetDeb package.

Bump. Anyone else experiencing this? Sorry for the anonymous post before...

Hi there,

Thanks for letting us know. I overheard some of the developers talking about this issue yesterday. If you update to Flock version 1.2.4 you should be fine.

Please let me know how it works after the update. No worries about the anonymous post. And thank you for the kind words about Flock!

Thanks,

Sorry, it updates in Flock and stays as what you set it as, but it doesn't update on Facebook itself.

There is a link at the top righthand side of the Facebook page that says "Back to the old Facebook". Click that and you will get the old layout.

Spotted this too; it changes the status in Flock and keeps it until the sidebar refreshes, at which point it changes back to whatever you had it set as before. No change at all on FB. Pretty annoying.

Using Flock 2.0 beta 2.

(I don't like the new FB layout at all either, but going back to the old version is going to be taking a step backwards, which I don't like doing. And somehow I don't think we're going to get the choice of layout forever, so might as well get used to it now.)

Facebook does not work on 1.2.4. When login manually the sidebar people and the accounts and services does not login or update services. Trick with Preferences -Update etc. oesn't work either. Bad things for a good browser!!!

Facebook status doesnt change, when changing the sidebar status. The main page stays with the old status, if you update the new facebook page status that updates the sidebar status.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for letting us know. We are aware of this issue and we will be pushing out a fix very soon. Facebook changed their API and then fixed it, and then it changed again- so we do have a fix ready. Here's the bug link if you'd like to follow it: Bugzilla and this should be released in the very near future.

Any new word on this fix? I just installed Flock and having the same issues.

I appreciate that Facebook haven't been helpful with their API-changes, but it must be a month now - and there still isn't a fix? There's not much point in using flock if I have to use a manual workaround for my main social networking site! am on os x 10.5.4 and flock 1.2.2.

ChrisVance

@cometworm: I am slightly surprised you are not using Flock 1.2.4, which contains security fixes released in the last two months.

Per the Flock bug 14396 related to this Facebook change, the fix was checked in on 7 August 2008, and verified in a prerelease version of Flock 1.2.5 by Sophie on 22 August 2008.

While I'm not privy to Flock's release plans, with any luck the new version of Flock with the Facebook fix will be out reasonably soon.

Jen Anderberg

Hello,

The fix will be in Flock version 1.2.5, which will be out in the next few weeks. We would release it now, but 1.2.5 will encompass a very important Mozilla security fix, so we're waiting on that. Thanks in advance for your patience with this issue!

It's now August 27. where is the fix for the facebook sidebar? and, Is there one for twitter? It won't stay updated, in fact, it shows my last tweet as from Aug. 26

ChrisVance

August 26, 2008 - 7:54pm

@KelL: Per Evan's tweet, "The Twitter friend status updates and Facebook own status update bugs will both be fixed in Flock 1.2.5, out in the next few weeks." It sounds like the problem is more on Twitter's end than on Flock's end.

Also, if you read this thread, you'll see I said it that according to the bug report, the Facebook sidebar problem is fixed in a prerelease version of Flock 1.2.5. Jen then added that 1.2.5 won't be released until Mozilla includes an important patch, and that things should be out in the next few weeks.

Quick update: Chris is correct, but we've decided to push the Twitter and Facebook fixes in 1.2.5 and the Mozilla security patch in 1.2.6. 1.2.5 should be out in the next few days.

I've been using Flock quite happily with Facebook for a while and have kept my updates current and am using the latest release but still find that the new Facebook just doesn't work with Flock any more. Where are the fixes?

Hi Marion,

What features aren't working for you with the new Facebook? Can you see the actual website? Or is the Sidebar not working properly with it?

Please let me know and we'll go from there.

Thanks!

I'm having the same issues. My facebook was forced to the new facebook today. And now, my sidebar doesn't load. it tells me I'm not currently logged into Facebook, giving me a Login button. After pressing and logging in, facebook shows up in my browser window, but the people sidebar still says I'm not logged in.
I'm using 1.2.5

I am using Flock 1.2.5 on Mac 10.5.4. My Facebook sidebar says "logged out". I click "Login to Facebook", go to facebook in the main panel, login, etc, but the sidebar still says "you are not currently logged into facebook". This has been happening ever since Facebook switched to the new interface.

Same problem - sidebar says I'm not logged in but browser still automatically logs into Facebook correctly as usual when Flock is started as shown in main window. Flock 1.2.5, OS X 10.4.11.

Hi guys,

Thanks for letting us know. This definitely isn't normal behavior, as it seems to be working again for most folks. What we've found out is that you guys may not have the WebDetective update that fixes this issue, but a simple fix will do the trick. To 'Force [a] Service Update' on Mac, please go to your Preferences menu > Advanced > Update tab > Force Service Update. Then make sure to restart Flock for the changes to take effect.

Please let me know how this goes.

Hi guys,

I'm so sorry to hear this didn't work for you. Thanks for letting me know.

A couple of quick questions if you don't mind:

What country are you accessing Facebook from?
What language are you viewing Facebook in?
And, would any of you be interested in providing us with temporary access to your account in order to diagnose the issue?

Please let me know and we'll go from there.

I have tried all of the above "fixes" more than once, but it is sill not working for me. I did try using flock 2.0 and that worked for the FB updates.

However, using flock 2.0, the "Favorite Sites" widget was not updating with each website I was visiting. It remained the same, probably since it's in beta, and so I switched back to 1.2.5. Of course, I'm back to the title of this thread.

Jen Anderberg

September 22, 2008 - 12:23pm

Hi peteo,

Thanks for contacting us. I'm sorry to hear the fixes didn't work for you with the Facebook issue, but I'm glad to hear that it was working fine in the Beta.

As for the Favorite Sites, it's actually the most frequently visited sites. So just because you visit a site doesn't make it go to the top, it's based on the number of visits. So, if the number of visits is huge, you won't notice anything take over the top-ranked position until they outnumber the visit count that the top item has.

Please let me know if this doesn't make sense or if I haven't answered your questions!

Thanks,

Oh, I understand what you meant by the "Favorite Sites" explanation. For me however, it does not change at all. It is always the same set of links in the same position no matter how often I visit any site. I guess I'll wait for the final version to deal with that issue.

As for the non-updating FB feature, do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

-Peter

No joy here. I had already tried the force update approach before. Didn't work this time, either. :-) OS X 10.4.11. Flock 1.2.5. On restart, I'm logged into FB and can use it in the main window, but the people sidebar still says I'm not logged into Facebook.

Hi guys,

I'm very sorry to hear that the force update- fix isn't working for either of you. We have tried to reproduce the issue on two generous Flockstar's accounts, but no luck.

Quick question, is everyone on this thread using a Facebook account outside of North America? Because the only pattern I'm seeing is that both the accounts we tried to reproduce on, were English, but international.

Please let me know and we'll go from there.

I use to love flock but since the new version of facebook has been introduced the people bar says I'm logged out and does not update, subsequently I use flock less and less. I have read this thread from top to bottom and it seems more of these issues are associated with macs which I am on. It is an english language account in Australia and this issue is definitely caused by the new version of facebook. When we were able to toggle between new and old versions of facebook the flock sidebar would work on the old and not the new. This problem is now here full time because the old facebook is dead. I have all the latest updates for both flock & the mac os. I hope in the future you get control of this bug. I would love to start using flock again.
Best Regards,
Colin

Hello,

Thanks for contacting us. Would it be possible to get a screen shot emailed to me? Of the People Sidebar and also the Facebook page?

It *seems* like there may be a tiny pattern forming here with overseas accounts, but I can't be sure. We're hoping a screen shot might help shred some light on this issue.

We were also hoping to see someone's page source, if you wouldn't mind. If you go to Facebook home page (http://www.new.facebook.com/home.php) then File > Save Page As... (ctrl-S/cmd-S), it will hopefully save as home.php.

If anyone with an overseas account can email me this file and/or a screen shot, that would be great! Please let me know your thoughts.
