The beta period for Flock’s 1.2 browser is now officially over. Although we continually juggle inbound requests for new service integrations, we couldn’t be happier about this latest release with Digg and Pownce built in. Two weeks ago, we released the Flock 1.2 beta and have since been inundated with heaps of great encouraging comments from our users. Although we’re generally not driven by an interest in feeding the vices of our users, the words ‘addicting’ and ‘addictive’ have been used more than ever in the way that we’ve seen our browser described since we integrated Digg and Pownce into the experience.
"Really like the Digg button. Far too addictive! You have a magnificent product."

Go nuts! We love it too! Now that we’ve really got things cooking for you, we’re ready to offer a peek into our next round of progress. Within the coming weeks Flock will release it’s first beta of Flock 2.0, which incorporates the Mozilla technology that powers Firefox 3. So get ready to have all of the latest performance (memory management), security and feature enhancements found in the latest Firefox 3 release along with the unique user experience innovations only delivered by the Flock browser.
If you’re finding yourselves addicted now, then we’ll be anxious to hear from you when you have the features you love, running on the latest Mozilla technology we’re all raving about.
As always, if you’ve become a convert to the Flock browser, please tell a friend to check us out and…Digg us!
-Cheers

I can't wait to download Flock 2.0 with all of Firefox's bells and whistles. I would like to see Flock fix the memory leaks issue and include color profile support.
Flock rocks!
Does this mean that it'll stop taking up 128Mb of RAM? ;D
Same here, I am really looking forward to download the new version. I definitely hope it eats less memory, that will be the main issue. If you succeeded in developing a lighter version it will be a success!
Interaction design
Will we get MSN and Hotmail integration? Can't wait!
My wife and 135,000 other rabid, blogging, web-saavy knitters would be just beside themselves if there was some kind of Ravelry.com integration. The fact that it's called "Flock" would only serve to make them fall over themselves faster in their rush to download.
I've learned not to underestimate that community's ability to come out in force.
Just sayin...
Further to my own comment, I'd personally love to see dotMac mail integration, and Apple webgallery support in the flock media feeds.
Does the flock team know this yet!?
There's a huge competition going on online. Basically a competition where they have you do stuff online for 30days.
Last year it reached top 100 sites on alexa, and what's so special about that?
This year their very first lesson is... "Install flock!"
The guy who runs it pretty much makes flock look like the best thing since sliced bread (which it is).
But you can definetely expect a ton of new flock users in the next 2-3 months when this thing starts.
http://www.ThirtyDayChallenge.com/challenge/1177
First video and blog post on flock on there.
Feature requests... I'm only going to mention this just for the 5th time hehe. Sorry, i want it too bad :)
Google Bookmarks integration. That's the only thing separating flock from perfection (that and ff3 under the hood, but that's already confirmed)
Will we see Myspace integration in the 2.0 release?
WOW, this is really a great news for all Flock lovers.
I am so happy and excited about the upcoming Flock 2 Release.
I was wondering, for quite some time, about FireFox 3 and Flock. I actually wanted to ask the question that when is the Flock team going to use FF3.
Thank You. Flock is always one step ahead. I will Digg it for sure :)
wow!! great news only digg is great....i want to see more support for yahoo mail to easily login without entering password, hotmail?
more google support google maps etc.....
support techinical websites like arstechnica,sharkyextreme,newegg?
more support for linux and ubuntu...some plugins for ubuntu brainstrom, fridge etc
I hope the beta of Flock 2.0 has MySpace integration, and a better del.icio.us integration just like the original Firefox extension. :) Keep up the good work guys!
I just hope in version 2.0 we can get rid of the online favorite by option and it will also remember its sizing
But can't wait till using FF3 code
It's my understanding that Google Bookmarks are one of the most under used feature in Google with Del.icio.us and all. Any thoughts on this?
How about LinkedIn? I'd really like that integration. Myspace would be nice as well... not as necessary, but still nice.
Amy
I too wouldn't mind Myspace integration in a future Flock release, as well as MSN hotmail / live mail support. I don't use Myspace or MSN much but if it was built into Flock I'd monitor them more often, as I do with Facebook, yahoo and gmail. Without something like Flock, I'd forget I have accounts with these various sites.
It would also be nice to have deviantart.com, livevideo.com and virb.com added to the media sections.
Here's to future releases...
Yikes, I am way behind on responses! Great to see all the excitement over this announcement.
@Omar: Flock 2.0 will include all the memory leak fixes included in Firefox 3. Expect an article with a bit more info soon.
@Allan: Flock 2.0 will have better performance over time, better performance with extensions installed, and better performance with many tabs open. Whether or not the RAM usage will go down or not, you'll have a better overall, long-term experience with the browser.
@Orng: I'll log you (r wife's?) vote for Ravelry.com, and your dotMac and Apple webgallery votes.
@Alek: We are aware of the 30 Day Challenge, and we're tickled pink. It's great that Ed is giving us such love. :)
@Mosi: We're not sure if MySpace will be in the 2.0 release...it certainly won't be in the beta. Their API, while very cool, is still maturing towards consistently working with desktop programs, so our integraiton has been slow going.
@Ivan: What sort of del.icio.us features are we missing that the extension has?
@Neo: The online favorites separator in the Favorites Sidebar will be gone in Flock 2.0.
@Amy: I'll log your vote for LinkedIn. As I mentioned to Mosi, we're working on MySpace integration, but it's slow going.
@steveleenow: See my above comments regarding MySpace. As for Hotmail, we are looking into their recently released API, so hopefully you'll see integration soon. I'll log your votes for virb, livevideo, and deviantart.
Thanks for the love, everyone!

Thanks for the response Evan!
If you had deviantart and MSN integration, I could probably talk my girlfriend into using Flock as well. Right now, she is still using IE but I've been trying to coax her into trying out Flock.
Ohhh.... Another vote for deviantArt!
I totally forgot about that one. It's something I use all the time.
Amy
one quick thing about the pownce integration. #! I LOVE it and I am soo happy that you added it, however my #2 is that when I drop a link into the post field in the people sidebar it doesn't automatically go into pownce as a link, so if it is a link to a viddler video for example, that video will not show up in pownce
For del.icio.us (which is one of the main reasons I have replaced FF with Flock!), I'd like to see it provide a list of all the tags I already have, so that I can try and use the same ones (rather than mac for some, macintosh for others etc).
Also, can the favourites sidebar sort online tags by something other than tag? I'd love to see them sorted by "most recent" like is done by default on the del.icio.us homepage.
I would like to know what assessibility features are built into Flock?
I am blown away by this browser. I had originally tried it when it first came out but it didn't really do it for me. But I thought I should try it again with version 1.2, and I'll tell you what - I have already replaced the taskbar browser button with Flock, switched Flock to my default, recommended it to others, and am now trying to look for a way to give you guys a few dollars. I know the money isn't much, but it's more of a gesture of appreciation than anything.
I hope you continue working on this because I really see this browser as something that can take off -- actually, I think it already has. Thank you and good luck!
Oh -- one more thing --- where do I go to write some ideas/suggestions that I have for Flock?
I agree - I was wondering why LinkedIn was already included. I'm sure they are working on it (hint hint).
I would also like to be able to select which social programs I want. For example, I don't use Flickr and I would like to take it off of the People tab.
@Karim Baz:
You can write your ideas and/or suggestions by clicking the Help Menu on top of browser and later click Give Feedback. Easy as pie!
Regards,
Omar.-
When should we expect the FF3 beta release? Can't u have an Alpha or pre alpha release for the few like me who like to try out cutting edge stuff... I have been a flock user from the launch and recently migrated totally to it as my default browser! Have blogged about it a few times about it too.
I use it the most for blogging and one request that I'll put in is the ability to add photos to my blog directly from my desk without first uploading them manually to my photo service account. U can behind the scene upload it to my photo service or also ask me where I want to put the pics in the blog up.
Also I'll like to have a service for esnips.com and may be google docs, so I'll never move out of Flock :D
Btw, is the code still open source? I had downloaded the code long back pre 1.0, but never ever got to look at it again, Will be great if it is and you tell me the access to the 2.0 branch details, I'll love to build and try it out :)
@amy: I'll log your vote for DeviantART.
@Sarah Cooley: Glad you like the Pownce integration! If you drag'n'drop the URL to the "Post Link" button in the sidebar, does it post as you wish?
@Sharon: All accessibility features in Firefox 2 are in Flock 1.2. We haven't added anything additional.
@Karim Baz: Thanks so much for the kind words, we really do appreciate it. It's always nice to know that the long hours we pull here are creating something that makes people happy. Please keep your money. What you can do for us instead is to tell everyone you know about Flock and do whatever else you can to spread the word. To survive as a company we need to continue growing this awesome community of Flockstars, and that's where we really need your help! Thanks!
@Rohit: As Dan said, "Within the coming weeks Flock will release it’s first beta of Flock 2.0". In the meantime, if you're a really curious person you might want to take a look at tinderbox.flock.com.
I'll log your vote for uploading of photos to blog accounts. It's definitely something up there on the request list, but it's a fair amount of work so I don't expect it to get done in the short term.
I'll also log your votes for esnips and google docs. What kind of Google Docs integration are you imagining?
Yup, we're still open source. You should be able to find everything you need at developer.flock.com. Let me know if you have trouble finding anything!
Flock'n'roll!

I would like to see integration of Flock with Miro
I understand Flock 1.2.2 Beta is ready for download. Can you give us further information about what is new in this release?
Yeah, flock is GREAT, but, I would like the startup time to be shorter.
@Your Name: I'll log your vote for Miro.
@Omar: 1.2.2 has changes for the upcoming German release. Mike should have a blog post up on The Release Note soon.
@lameomaster: Startup time should be much improved in Flock 2.0. One important note: your FIRST startup once upgrading to 2.0 may be long, but all startups after that will be greatly improved.

Just wondering if there is any reason why source code is no longer available to download for each release. This makes it harder for distributions who compile flock for 64-bit architectures to provide updates at a release point.
Hey, just got to say that i love Flock - thrilled to hear it will get FF3 features! One quick request, would it be possible to get Google Calender integration? Would be a real life saver for me (and I'm sure others) Thanks so much, you are doing a great job!
Jonathan
Hi,
Will you integrate the search motor as an account service (cause it is necessary subscribe to the service for using it) VeoSearch? http://www.veosearch.com/
It's a very good search motor which gives 50% of it's money (generated by YOUR search) to associations that YOU choose. :)
Other good search project (because it will become in Open Source) is Glubbe ( www.glubbe.com ).
It's a good thing to integrate big services (like facebook and digg) but try to think to alternative services for an alternative way of using the internet in all ways (solidarity, economic, open source and free softwares etc). :)
Thanks Flock
Hi,
I would like to know if (and when) flock will have an rss/xml/podcast reader includes, cause reading podcasts and recording it in the same time is a thing that a lot of people (including me) wants to do.
For example a software called Noopod ( http://www.noopod.com/index.php?page=intro&newlang=en ) allowing to do it!
Unfortunately, i don't use it cause there are some bugs, and i can't record my podcasts, just listening it...
So, Flock, will you do it? :)
How long has the Eco-Edition of Flock been around. I just noticed it. Is it a fairly new release? This is SO exciting. You developers are truly beautiful souls.
@Su Smith:
More information about Flock's Eco Edition here: http://browser.flock.com/eco/
I am fairly new to Flock, but already love the capabilities of the browser. I have been using Firefox on Linux and Windows platforms for years and love the security and speed of it. I hardly ever have a breakdown with it. I recently tried to set up a website with a company that proclaimed Linux compatibility yet when using Firefox could not edit my website, I downloaded Flock and immediately it worked. I also was having problems uploading pictures from my LInux machines, yet after installing Flock got immediate results.
Flock is great and I am loving it.
I look forward to trying out the beta version of 2.0.
The Code Stops Here.
As a member of a team that runs a social/professional networking cum HD video, photo and music hosting) website (ExposureRoom), I'm wondering what it would take for us and/or Flock to integrate?
I would love to see something similar to Shareaholic implemented except that it would allow submission to all selected networks/blogs with a single click (with customized options).
The addition of Digg is very successful. I noticed that you have not inserted My space as ever?
Flock is a great project, continue so I recommend!
hi i wanna chat
I give my ++ vote for DeviantART Integration!
I like flock's skin. Btw, I tried to run some hard coded Firefox extensions and they works. Are Firefox extenstion compatible with Flock? I'm asking, because I checked your extension directory did not find information about it. And other thing - please descrease launching time for Flock, it's very long for current computers.
I also, gave the Flock skins a go recently. Tried the Gloss skin, which felt more like something for a little sister... so I've switched over to ECO GREEN now and loving it!
Customization is also a definite plus. One of the core reasons I just can not live without FF/Flock is the ability to add plugins.
Digg is for the english Version absolutely perfect, but whats about the german version? Digg has in germany not the population like sites in german language (for example: mister wong, yigg, etc...) will there be a german version with other buttons than digg?
Good point Meike, thats something i´m really interested in too because i love flock but it lacks at time in social media (especially in foreign languages) but i think the great team form flock will also fix it in future for sure :o)
Nice Addition
Now all digg has to do is add a version for german
