We recently became aware that Flock was selected as one of PC World's top 100 products of 2008. This is flattering for us, and another great validation that our vision is resonating with the world. We were not only in the company of many wonderful other products and services, but we were listed as #6 on the list of 100 services.
Rather than doing some kind of chicken dance to show our jubilation for this acknowledgement, I'll simply point you to the list so that you can check out the many wonderful companies which also received this recognition. Of course, we pay close attention to the other browsers, and we are extremely humbled to be listed as the top browser by PC World.
The pace of progress here at Flock has been steady. In November of 2007, Flock launched our first commercial release with the 1.0 version of our browser. Today, we find ourselves almost half way into 2008, and we're launching our third full commercial release with the 1.2 version of our browser.
We've got some great things planned for the remainder of 2008, and look forward to continued innovation in pursuit of delighting Flock fans worldwide.

Wow! Congratulations you guys! I first started using flock after downloading from Softonic and been using it for about five months now. Honestly, I didn't know your first commercial release had been launched just a few months ago. Is really amazing the maturity of a product so young.
Flock deserves to be in the top 10 but XP and Wikipedia? Flock is breaking new ground, XP was released in 2005...maybe they are excited about Service Pack 3 :) The Iphone is way cool though.
I was so happy to see Flock up there in the ten best products list for 2008. You guys are making history with the best web browser for intense sharing and collaboration activities. Congratulations!
Why did you tag it with Firefox3? It is not based on it, even though it's highly expected.
This award is for Flock 1.1, not for 1.2, which is lesser quality.
For instance, Digg integration in Flock 1.2 is a shame. Why do you need to run a digg.com script for every feed article, even though I don't subscribe to that service? Consider the privacy and the fact that feed articles take longer to show. Feed contents won't even show up if digg.com is down, for instance.
Please think ten times before bloating Flock with stupid things. Or, provide a convenient way to disable them. I might consider making a fork if things continue to go the wrong way.
For now, people might disable this the following way: [Censored because of side effects to the browser]
This way, Flock won't inform digg.com about every single article you have in your RSS or Atom feeds.
I'm not sure why the post was tagged with Firefox3, but I'll check it out. FYI, we already have a FF3-powered build in alpha.
In general, I think you have a fine point about the Digg integration in 1.2. One of my goals for the coming months is to allow most of the services in Flock to be disabled. Some people don't want certain integrations, and we should certainly allow them to be disabled.
That said, we haven't noticed any performance issues related to Digg in the Feed Reader. We'll look into it (it's possible it's affecting older machines) and let you know. Same with the issue when Digg is down...we're not aware of this bug, but we'll certainly look into it.
Your privacy concerns with the Feed Reader are definitely worth serious investigation, and we are looking into them at this time. If there is an issue here, we will issue an auto-update as soon as possible. Your privacy is very important to us, and this is our top priority.
I do appreciate your concern and I'll do what I can to address those issues, but I want to encourage you to be involved in our next beta cycle. This is why we have an open beta for all our products; to get feedback from the people who use Flock about the new features. Unless I missed it, your complaint here is the first I've seen about Digg in the feed reader. Hope to see your voice in the next beta process!

Awesome, It,s the best browser i have used so far though a little slow to load, I like it,s interactive abilities and embedded applications...Keep it up
Evan,
Thanks for your understanding. This discussion about version 1.2 is getting out of the scope of this piece of news: but your work still is excellent, and Flock needs to be known more.
Let me explain the privacy issue:
Let's say I have a RSS feed with Facebook notifications. Any time I read it, there is a script going out from Flock to digg.com for every one of the articles contained:
http://digg.com/tools/services/?endPoint=/stories&appkey=http%3A%2F%2Flock.com&type=json&link=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fn%2F%3Fevent.php%26eid%3D...
I can see no point in informing digg.com about the articles I'm reading (especially if I don't subscribe to that particular service).
If you have the NoScript extension installed, reading feed articles won't work in 1.2, unless you explicitly allow digg.com scripts. That makes me think that reading articles is longer and that they won't work if digg.com suddenly changes something or is shut down.
I can't find any betas now (I'm a new user, happy with version 1.1.4), but I am seriously considering getting the next betas and filling some reports.
As I said, we are looking into that potential privacy issue at this time. My guess is that we'll have a patch out in the next 24 hours.
There are no betas going at this time (though you can always dig around on tinderbox.flock.com), but we'll announce it here next time we have one. Looking forward to your thoughts then!

I just saw that there is a new version for Flock, (i.e., 1.2.1.) Can you please tell us what else is new? Should it be downloaded? I would appreciate your giving us more information about this latest release.
I agree, version 1.2.1 doesn't inform digg.com about everything you read. I switched to it and it works great. Kudos to the Flock team for such a quick fix.
1.2.1 removes the "x Diggs" and "x comments" info from the feed reader and thus does not send your feeds to Digg. That's the only change, as far as I know. Go ahead and grab it; auto-updates will be turned on early next week.

The only differences between Flock 1.2 and Flock 1.2.1 are:
We made the notification bar that appears when attempting to remove a self-hosted blog clearer by showing the blog name ("lilmatt's blog") rather than the service name ("metaweblog", "atom", etc.). This fix was already on the 1.2 branch when we were alerted to the Digg issue, so it rode along.
We disabled the "x Diggs" and "x comments" info from the feed reader due to privacy concerns. Note that if users turn the debug logging on they'll still see stuff like ".getDiggInformation('http://some.feed.url')" which may be confusing. However, you'll also notice that the above line is no longer followed by a ".call()" statement, as we are not actually making a call to the Digg API anymore. We left the debug statements and other bits in place, as we wanted to make as small a change as possible, so we could turn the fix around as fast as possible.
The version number.
The actual changes between 1.2 and 1.2.1 can be found here.
Congratulations to the Flock team. The product is pretty good and after a while of hard labor the awards and votes keep coming, which is a recognition of the good work you are delivering. If you guys will succeed in developing flock in such a way that is eats less memory you have a killer product!
Wonderful, Congrats! I started using Flock accidentally but have now become regular user. This is really something different and it's deserved to be in this list. Hope to see more interesting features. All the best!
congrats.. i discovered flock only a month back. till then i used to use firefox.
flock really hooked me on with its social friendly interface and buildin apps for upload and blogging.
its ability to run most of firefox extensions sealed the deal and made me a 100% flock user.
the only small worry is that it, like firefox dont go well with my employer's internal websites which are very old html pages
I am now a flock fan and promote flock actively among my networks
i am sure, flock team has the capabilities to take the ranking from 6 to top 3 soon
I WISH I COULD REMEMBER JUST HOW I FOUND FLOCK, BUT I CAN'T.
I DO KNOW THIS MUCH, SO LONG AS IT'S MADE AVAILABLE TO ME I'LL
USE IT. IT HAS SO MANY OF THE FUNCTIONS THAT I LOVE TO USE, WHY BOTHER USING ANYTHING ELSE. OH CONGRATULATIONS, YOU GUYS DESERVED TO PICKED AS ONE THE TOP BROWSERS. YOU'RE THE BEST I'VE USED YET. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. YOU SHOULD REALLY TRY TO LINK WITH MYSPACE SOMEHOW.
Flock is fabulous and very fast. I have put the details on my blog because this is worth advertising. Well done - a big improvement on Firefox and as for IE7, delegrated to the trash bin. heehee
I Have Nit Yet Used Flock Yet I Am A Firefox Fan And Have Benn Using It Since The I Knew About It And Thats Like 5 Years Back. I Have Heard Alot Of Good Remarks And I Am GoiNG To Dowload Today And Test For Myself If Flock Can Be Comparable To The Other 2 Big Guns IE AND FF.
When I Am Done Evaluating It I Will Comment Once More And Give My Opinion On FLOCK WEB BROWSER.
Congrats!!! Thats awesome news...Flock deserves it completely... Its a great product and I hope it just keeps getting better.

I think, though, that I would like to see the chicken dance as well please.

This is such a good news for everyone.
Congratulations to all Flock users and especially Congratulations to all Flock team without them, this was not possible.
Thank You for given us the great gift of Flock Browser.
But I think instead of "Hulu" which is on the top of the list, I think Flock deserve to be there :)
Sorry, the digg disabling has side effects. I will post a complete workaround later.
Thanks for the kind words, everyone!

Great job. Great browser.
This is not my comment.
Weird, usually my name only gets hijacked in the comments sections on political blogs.
