Firefox 3 & Flock

HI !

I suppose that Flock will soon use Firefox 3 engine... Because FF is a really good version. Its memory usage, speed & features are very good. I hope Flock will quickly adopt this new engine.

Hello Your Name,

You're quite correct. We're already hard at work on FF3-based Flock, and it should be out later this year. This is our primary focus at this time.

I just tested FF3 and it doesnt load CPU at all :))))
And when i go to gmail it doesnt load cpu there too
And when i select all messages in there it does it so fast!
Flock doesnt do all the things without loading CPU to max but this doesnt mean i wont ever use flock

I'm hoping it's more like "later this month" or shortly thereafter. I love FF3. RC1 works great here. I'm about to try RC2.

Mozilla just announced that the final version of Firefox 3 will come out next Tues June 17. How long after than can we expect a Flock version?

Hey KevinBBG,

I'd say it's safe to say you will be downloading a browser before the 17th. :)

I've been running the beta of flock I found on mac.softpedia.com only one problem I ran into was a bug where it claimed it was running when it wasn't so I had to restart to reopen, otherwise it works pretty good

Hey folks,

The Flock 2 Beta (one) is now available! Get it at www.flock.com/beta/download and let us know what you think!

@hdofu: Let me know if that bug crops up again.

Link points to nowhere :) The link in the "will flock change its favorites with FF3 platform?" thread is just fine.

Whoops, bad link. I've fixed it. The correct link is www.flock.com/beta/download. Too much multitasking. :)

will do, but so far so good, may just have been an extension I installed

It's a lot faster, maybe even faster than Safari, smoother too. It did crash on me twice when I first opened it, both times clicking on a link but has been fine ever since. Which is only about an hour. Good so far, I will make it my main browser for a while and see how it goes.

One problem, spellcheck doesn't work in the AOL Message Boards, doesn't work in Firefox 3, either but does in Safari.

When will Flock-eco 2.0 comes out?

Evan Hamilton

June 23, 2008 - 1:39pm

@chinabiue: When Flock 2 reaches its general release, we will release a 2.0 version of Eco. There will not be a version of Eco for the beta.

Hey evan, firstly I wanna thank you for answerting all the quesies people have had so far, but I just want to re ask about something someone mentioned earlier, I recently discovered piclens, and i LOVE it, but it seems it doesn't work in the new beta, even though it works in the firefox beta, is this being worked on?p

Hey Halfscottishguy,

Thanks for the kind words. We generally don't make extensions work in Flock; they need to make their extension work with our platform. I'd highly recommend you drop them a line about it (I'm sure they'd much rather hear it from a PicLens fan). You're welcome to provide my email address, as we'd be happy to help them make it work in Flock.
