Hi Folks,

Second Update: Just as were deploying the Automatic Update tonight, Facebook changed their site again. Fortunately we were able to handle this change with a simple Web Detective fix that has already been deployed. If you're running Flock 1.1.4 and are still experiencing issues with Facebook sidebar issue, please follow the following instructions

  1. Select the Tools->Options menu, or, if on a mac, Flock->Preferences
  2. From that dialog, select the Advanced pane
  3. Inside this pane choose the "Update" tab
  4. Click on the "Force Service Updates" button
  5. Restart Flock
  6. Enjoy your Facebook people again!

Update: If you've got to Facebook and can't wait for the automatic update, Flock 1.1.4 is available for download at http://www.flock.com. All of your previous configuration information will still be available to you after installing 1.1.4. We're still targeting for later this evening to have the automatic update available.

As some of you might have noticed, the Facebook People sidebar is not populating with your friends at the moment. We are aware of the problem and are working on a fix to accommodate the Facebook changes.

We anticipate having a fix pushed out very shortly. Flock will update itself with the fix and you will simply need to restart your browser.

Thanks for your patience.

I can't tell you how many times I've restarted my browser or logged in to Facebook thinking I was doing something wrong! Thanks for the update, and I look forward to the fix.

Just out of curiosity, was this something changed on Flock's side or Facebook's side that borked things today?

Hey Kyle,

It was something that changed on Facebook's side.

By the way, you can get updates like this even faster by following the Flock Twitter account: www.twitter.com/flocker. Even if you don't have a Twitter account, you can still subscribe to the RSS feed. This is where we place bug alerts and other updates the moment they are available.

thx for the update. I was wondering what's wrong - I had to use my windows machine coz my mac is in service and I even tried re-installing.

I don't even know how to use Facebook or Flickr without Flock

Are you all gonna get a update out so we can have Facebook in 1.2a?

Just out of curiosity.. the people button is driving me nuts with twitter.. it always says that I have new updates and messages with twitter (event hough they are old.). I check them through flock it goes away and lights up again with in 2 minutes it's very annoying.. am I doing something wrong can it be fixed?

You have not updated the link on the main page to 1.1.4 I guessed it was
http://downloads.flock.com/index.php?os=win&product=flock-1.1.4&platform=win&platform=win

And facebook works again.
Oops !

That was a quick update, though. At first, I thought there is some problem with my PC.

1.1.4 still didn't fix the problem for me.

Is there a process (automated, perhaps?) in place to regularly test the login/autodetection magic for the various services supported by Flock? I suppose if enough people Twitter in your direction you might get some hints there's a problem, but an in-house solution might be best. When FB/Flickr/whatever make changes that break your web detective stuff, how soon do you know?

@Louie: I'd suggest forcing service updates, then restarting the browser. Go to Tools->Options, Advanced tab, Update tab, and click Force Service Updates.

Also, try logging out, forgetting the Account from the Accounts and Services sidebar, then visiting the site and logging in again.

Hi Mike:

Just downloaded and installed Flock 1.1.4, but the problem with Facebook is still there. Followed your instructions given to Louie, but no joy.

I don't use Facebook at all, but anyway I just wanted you to know that the problem was not solved with Flock 1.1.4. At least not in my case.

I tried doing both ways to solve the problem with 1.1.4. Still no improvement. Forced update, restart, forget account, logout/in... the toolbar still thinks I'm not logged in, even though I am on FB.

I also tried both: forced update, forget account, etc. and this has not restored the FB sidebar.

forgot to mention in previous comment, I did upgrade to 1.1.4

Hi Folks,

Unbelievably Facebook changed their site again tonight. Fortunately we were able deploy a web detective fix. To pick up the patch immediately go to Tools->options, or if you're on a mac, Flock->Preferences, and choose the Advanced pane. Inside this pane choose the "Update" tab. Here you'll see a button called "Force Service Updates". Click on that, restart your browser, and you should be all set to go.

Thx,

Works like a charm after the new update.
Thanks!

is there anything going on to fix the FB issue on 1.2a?

Just a comment on the versions you talk about - don't forget the Linux (Ubuntu) version that I use ... it's not just a Windows/Mac world out there :-)

From the other side of the world, we just want to say: Thanks for sharing you thoughts and keep up the good work :-)

1.2a beta also is not working with Facebook.
(As Mark B. mentioned...)

When you take the link for the release notes for 1.1.4, there is no information at all about 1.1.4 - it's the release notes for a previous version, with no mention of 1.1.4.

It fixed it for me. I just did a "Check for Updates" in the Help menu, updated, clicked on Login on the Facebook panel and I was in, even though it still said "Login failed"

Thanks for the fix.
Installed the new release this morning and, well, you guys are amazing. Keep up the fine work keeping us monkeys happy.

Hey folks,

We're trying to decide what to do about the 1.2a beta right now, as 1.2b (public beta) is right around the corner. I'll let you guys know as soon as we decide.

@ChrisVance: This is definitely somewhere we'd like to get to, but all the pieces are not in place yet. That said, we recently started one of our QA teams doing a daily test of all these logins, so we will get more warning than we did before.

Thanks to everyone for your understanding, glad to hear you're all back rockin' Facebook again!

Hi SuezanneCB,

We've made the necessary update to the web site so that the 1.1.4 release notes comes up. We appreciate the heads up!

It seems fascinating to me that for the past three releases the web clipboard is broken and nobody seems to care. What do I mean by that: The web clipboard used to keep html code as it was and this was pretty useful for repeated tasks. Right now this thing is no longer possible

Thank You so much for this very quick fix.

I was wondering if there was some thing wrong with my PC, but everything is ok now.

Thank You Flock Team

Hi Sathya,

This sounds like a firewall issue on your computer. Firewalls may not know about every update, and may sometimes require manual manipulation. Mozilla's knowledge base has some good information on this topic (as Firefox is prone to the same kind of issues), http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firewalls.
