BUMP
I was just looking for this info myself. Evan and company, it would be awesome if someone there could A) make friends with the right Google person to get Flock officially supported and B) post an unofficial but coincidentally accurate work-around "suggestion" for all of your loyal users.

Thanks!

Hey folks,

Making Flock work with Google Gears is unfortunately a high effort task, and it's not really clear that there is a huge audience for it (though I appreciate that you are a vocal audience!). We'd love to have Google Gears working with Flock but there are only so many hours in the day and only so many devs at Flock.

If any devs out there are interested in doing this, we'd be happy to provide any documentation and answers you need.

I thought I would up the demand by one and give my vote to make google gears compatible with Flock...I hope you get around to it sooner than later given your person and time constraints. And FYI, I think you have a great product with Flock. My internet experience is definitely enhanced by this browser due to social integration with Moz. Fire. and many of the add ins. Thank you for developing such a great product!

Another vote for getting gears working with flock.

I would imagine there's quite a few business' using flock. I enjoy being able to organise information within my browser.

I also think a lot of companies/organisations will move themselves over to The Cloud, be it Google, MS, Zoho etc. Gears will become a lot more important in the future.

My business is moving over to Google Apps - I no longer have to run an exchange server (thank god), upgrade MS Office etc. Saving me time & money.

Pretty much vital for me which means I'll have to return to FF until Flock gets upgraded....

The appeal of Google Apps for organizations is increasing all the time I think. The service as is is very good and with the gears excellent. I for one would be VERY happy to see gears working with Flock. Very happy with Flock since before 1.0 =o)

Actually I'd just like to be able to use Google Calendar with Flock! I get an error message every time I try and get my calendar up, which is a drag - I have to them go and use something else.

Hi Lorna,

Thanks for letting us know. Can you possibly tell me what the exact error message was that you received?

Thanks,

Using RTM and it kills me that Gears is not working. What a shame. Flock = Social, Gears=Business. Flock+Gears= Web 2.x where x > 0.

Another vote for gears please.

Evan,
Gears works for FF, FF is the engine for Flock. can't you 'lie' to gears and say your FF ;-)).

Evan, how do you measure the 'need' for a feature is it the squeeky wheel? or do we have another area where we can put requests in?

Thanks for a great product.

I want Gears for Flock too.

Here's the solution

September 13, 2008 - 2:38pm

Google has helpfully provided exactly the help we need for installing the Gears extension on another Mozilla-based browser.

I already had Firefox 3 installed (not my default browser), so the Firefox extension was unpacked by the Gears installer at location C:\Program Files\Google\Firefox (but if you don't have Firefox installed, try the Gears installer anyway, it may unpack the extension anyway). After updating the install.rdf file as described in the Google FAQ, I zipped all the files and directories under that location, changed the name to GoogleGears.xpi, and installed it (i.e. File-->Open File...).

I've tried some of the demos, and they appear to work correctly.
