Hi my favourites toolbar just went blank (Flock v1.0.1) though the links are still accessible if i use the Favourites>Favourites Toolbar method from the top bar (where File, Edit, etc. are)
Has anyone else experienced such a problem? I've opened up the customize option and it shows that the toolbar is still there, but none of the links/folders are actually visible. when i right click on the toolbar it still gives the option of adding new links or folders but clicking on them does nothing.
Any ideas? I'm a regular firefox user and have only recently started trying flock because of the good reviews v1.0 has been getting (and cause my firefox seems intent on using up all my system resources), but this is really making me think of going back....

I am on a mac. the problem you described happened to me as well(in fact my entire bookmark collection disappeared), but it corrected itself after a restart.
knightwalker
i've restarted, reinstalled, upgraded to v1.0.3 and still the problem remains...
I'm on vista btw.
Anna
I had the same problem, luckily for me all I had to do was restart Flock.
Though I didn't get all favourites back, I lost 3 or 4 of them.
VERY odd.

Incidentally, i've been looking around the forums and a lot of people seem to recently be having problems with disappearing favourites...
i've already sent in a bug report officially, though i've received no response as of yet. I think some official flocker needs to chirp up on the issue.

Hi everyone,
We were not able to reproduce this issue. Due to the lack of repro steps, could you please give us more info? Which platform are you using? From which version of Flock did you see the problem? If it's after an upgrade, which version did you upgrade from? Did you perform anything particular before the upgrade? Did all your bookmarks disappear or just some of them?
Any other info would be much appreciate so we can repro this. Many thanks!

I have similar issues but want to add something else about favorites. When I delete those listed in favorites or in the favorites toolbar using the favorites manager they STILL show up when I pull the drop down menu down, they won't disappear, yet they are gone in favorites manager. Also, can you help me understand what sort does. Favorites are sorted in the manager, but why don't they sort where I use them most, in the toolbar menu or the favorites menu.
Of all the features in Flock the bookmark handling in my opinion is THE WORST...love everything else though, but the favorites makes my blood boil; they need lots of work and should be a priority.

Hi Sophie
I actually sent in a bug report with all the exact steps taken, but i'll post them here as well.
To begin with i've only just started using flock (i tried the first beta when it came out) so i had a fresh install of the v1.0.1
I'm on a vista, and i've installed the following add-ons:
CuteMenus2 v2.1
easyGestures 4.1.2
Tab mix plus 0.3.6
I had also installed PDF Download 0.9.3.2 and Adblock Plus 0.7.5.3 but had some issues so i uninstalled them.
After they were added on, i experienced the issue (disappearing favourites toolbar) and uninstalling did not repair the issue. another problem was that when i bring up the Customize option by right-clicking on the navigation bar, the top bar with the "File", Edit", "View", etc. options would grey out and be non-clickable. Not even keyboard navigation (using the alt key) gets them to respond.
anyhow, i also upgraded to flock v1.0.3 thinking that may fix it but it hasn't which brought me here. Tell me if you need any other info... I;m really liking flock and its relatively easier on my computer than the resource hogging behemoth firefox has become.
Also while i'm here, is there any list of compatible extensions available?
Sophie
Knightwalker,
Thanks for all the info. I'll try reproducing the issue.
Do you have the bug number that you filed, by any chance? I searched for it, but couldn't find it. If not, no worries about it.
Thanks!
Sophie

*double post*
sorry

oh btw i have the same problem on my mac so it MUST be one of the extensions, no?
i have pretty much the same ones as mentioned except easyGestures has been replaced with all-in-one-gestures.... also added my-url-bar, errorzilla and speed dial and left out cute menus...
actually looking at it it looks like tab mix is the only common one... please tell me that isn't the cause cause i really can't live without it!!!

Hi. I had this issue today - was configuring Flock just the way I like it :-) and somewhere amongst all the updates of extensions, resets and tweakings, my favorites toolbar went blank... Can't bring it back - re-start ineffective...
In general, I agree favorites handling in Flock is its real Achilles Heel - needs a bit of a re-think, though it has improved from earlier versions.
One last wee thing - on Mac 10.5 (latest), I'm asked for permission to open Flock every time. This doesn't happen with any other app, so I wonder if Flock isn't talking to the OS preferences properly?
Anyway, all-in-all, I'm excited by this browser - seems light years ahead of other browsers, at least in terms of concept. Many thanks to the team...

My favourites bar has just gone blank too. All my favourites are still stored in the drop-down, but I can't click on any of them. I've tried restarting, and I just reinstalled, and the problem is still there.
I've been using Flock since the beginning, so unfortunately I have a lot to lose!

I am having the same problem as Randall. I recently installed Flock about a few weeks ago. I love it. Then I decided to import my bookmarks from Firefox and IE. It went well. As I was fixing up the favorites toolbar on Flock, the bookmarks deleted left a blank space with a "page icon" in it's place and it will not remove itself from the fav toolbar. I re-started flock but nothing.
H Ping
flock is horrendous at bookmarks/favorites. at will, it will double or triple the bookmarks on import or leave out the url and just indicate a favicon. it makes some bookmarks and/or their folders undeleteable and/or unmoveable, again randomly. having to completely uninstall and reinstall this programme to configue bookmarks correctly is ridiculous, especially as it's supposedly the 'community browser' which, in theory, is all about 'being an individual amongst many', which, in practice, is all about PERSONALIZATION. flock is only slightly less pathetic than the time I've wasted trying to get this neanderthal to work
MinkyMinky
I have the same problem, only it's ALL my favourites which disappear, not just the links bar.
They seem to disappear after my computer wakes up from hibernation/sleep mode. They reappear after i reboot my machine.
any ideas anyone?
I'm on Windows Vista Business with the latest release of Flock.
thanks
Minky.

Shut-up moaning, Flock is great! :)

I have the doubling bookmarks import from firefox bug too & worse yet-- there is no favorites toolbar folder in my favorites manager so I can't work with the bookmarks on my toolbar from within favorites manager.

after a kernel panic on my mac (10.4.10) all my favourates, subsriibes streems, configuration information, social networking intogration and e-mail have gone.
restarting dose not resolve.
when flock starts it brings up an 'application has quit absnormally, restore or start new sesion' neither option re-unites me with my settings.
above error ascide i also have no favourites toolbar in my favourites folder. flock has a few massive bugs and is terrible at favourites, but im sticking in there because its othe features are totally sweet 2.0

Hi Chris,
I was hoping I could gather some more information from you. I was wondering what version of Flock you had before (if any)?
Are you using the Eco edition? If so, where did you download it from?
Did you import anything from another browser? (i.e.: Favorites/Bookmarks)
Do you have any extensions installed?
Please let me know and we can hopefully figure out what's going on from there. Thanks!
Thanks for choosing Flock!

I have done some experimenting and the issue is with Tab Mix Plus! If I disable this all my favorites toolbar items reappear after a restart and when I enable it they reappear. This is really annoying for me since Tab Mix Plus is an awesome Add-on which really helps me get things done. I hope a fix can be found for this soon
just8Will
Sorry - I meant they disappear when I re-enable Tab Mix Plus and restart Flock

[on my windows xp] I recently downloaded the newest version of flock and my book marks are gone..just to let you know since there is no solution yet. >:/

I understand that it's frustrating for you not getting precise information from users about how they arrived at this problem of losing their favorite bookmarks. But here's my experience. I am an XP Flock user who downloaded the latest versions as they became available, as prompted by Flock. I then downloaded V2.0 (and don't try to ask what the old version was ... how often do you note down the old version no. of an app first before you upgrade to the latest and greatest?) and now I no longer have any of my favorites in either the menu or the toolbar. Why should any extensions I had installed have anything to do with the problem? Why should you have to ask what version I upgraded from? They're simple bookmarks that ought to be compatible and portable between versions anyway; easy to find, back up, and reinstall. Bookmarks are amongst some of the most precious personal data people want to keep safe and transport between computers, and I spent about 2 years carefully hoarding mine ... so how the frig can this data be so fragile as to be lost just like that *poof* in an upgrade? Yes I backed it up 6 months ago thanks to help from some very techy forums but I am annoyed to have to muck about finding and re-setting everything and still losing 6 months of data anyway. Come on!

Hey Patrick,
I understand that you're frustrated, and yes, I would be too.
However, you are running a BETA version of Flock 2. Betas are, by definition, unfinished. They could and will have bugs, and we specifically call out on the download page that you should back up your profile.
Yes, we should have a product that doesn't lose your bookmarks, and for most people the normal version doesn't (again, a Beta is a Beta). that said, in the rare instance in which an issue shows up, we do need to know what version you upgraded from to help aid us in hunting down the issue. Without context, it's pretty hard to just go through 1.5 million lines of code without knowing what area it might be in.
As for extensions, this is pretty straightforward: this is code that we DID NOT build being used with our product. Stuff can happen if the extension is conflicting with Flock somehow.
/endrant
The issue you're experiencing has happened to a few people using Flock 2. We suspect that the favorites/bookmarks are actually still there, but not showing up for some reason. We're looking into this at this time and will certainly have this bug fixed by the official release of Flock 2.

I lost my favorites. I'm on a Macbook Pro with Leopard. I have parallels and run windows too. I had my flock browser (1.2.1) minimized on the Mac side (I don't have it on windows) and my parallels caused a crash.
When I rebooted, by the time I went to flock I was trying to run a search and my google search box kept causing flock to crash when I tried to type in my search. Then I noticed my favorites on the bar were gone, and I looked and they were gone in the drop down too.
I have restarted a couple times, but the favorites are still gone, and using the google search box still crashed flock.

Also, to add to above, I cannot favorite anything, so I cannot rebuild favorites or search in the goodle box.

Can you try disabling the Google Toolbar add-on? Tools->Add-ons, click on the add-on in question, then Disable.
Also, if you have it, disable the Tab Mix Plus add-on, as others in this thread seem to have experienced problems running it in Flock.
Your Name
Actually, I don't have either ad on. Here is a screen shot of what I have http://tinyurl.com/6om84u
When I say google box I'm referring to the built in search box on the browser, it's set to google.
Your Name
I've tried disabling various ad ons even deleting the twitter ad on but no difference. This is an example of some errors in the console http://tinyurl.com/5lf4zv
I'm seeing that I have to reboot to get flock not to tell me the last session was interrupted (even though I closed the browser). I had to reboot to get it to register "the next time you open flock" to delete the twitter ad on..

I finally managed to get flock updated from 1.2.1 to 1.2.5, but nothing changed. Still no favorites and when I try to use the search box the browser crashes. I can't use a browser with no favorites and no search.
Jen Anderberg
Hi there,
We've looked at the screen shots above. This definitely sounds like a corrupt user profile. Flock should not be crashing like this, I'm very sorry for the inconveniences this must have caused. I've personally never had Flock crash on me once.
But if you delete your profile and start from scratch, everything should work just fine. If you're interested, you can also try the Flock Beta2- it's what I'm on right now and I haven't had any issues at all. However, I do not have any extensions installed on my Flock. They can cause a lot of issues if they're not compatible with the latest version of Flock.
Do you mind telling me what extensions you had installed? This way, we can test them out for ourselves, and find out which one of them was causing this issue. Or at least shred some more light on the situation.
Please let me know.
Thanks for your time and patience,

Yes, this is a screen shot of my extensions http://tinyurl.com/6om84u minus twitter as I deleted it.
How do I delete my profile?
Your Name
I found this:
Mac OS X:
The profile folder is in a folder named "Flock," and you'll find it on this path:
(your home folder)>Library>Application Support>Flock
Unfortunately when I look there, Flock does not exist
Please let me know when you get a chance.

okay, I'm done. I've removed Flock from my computer. A browser that does not search and keep bookmarks is useless, and I can't get help.
I even tried to remove it and reinstall it but still have the same problem.
I was excited to use this browser for its uniqueness, but it's useless now. Very disappointing. And at this point, even if I got it working again, how could I trust it?
ChrisVance
The problem is most likely with something in your profile rather than in the main Flock code. Your profile holds your add-ons, browsing history, preferences, etc. If you uninstall and reinstall the browser without removing your profile, and you have all your preferences and add-ons present when you start again, you'll most likely experience the same problems again.
As you've noticed, the Flock profile on Mac OS X is in the (your home folder)>Library>Application Support>Flock folder. I'm not familiar with OS X, but supposedly there are Library folders in two main locations within the system?
Sorry to hear about these problems. Good luck.
