Video Downloader Extension Issues

Hey guys and gals,

If you are having problems with the Video Downloader extension, let us know about it here.

A couple of questions so that we can track down the problem:

What other extensions (if any) do you have installed?
Does the extension appear as incompatible in the extensions menu (Tools->Extensions)?
Did Video Downloader work before Flock 0.7.3?
Did you autoupdate to Flock 0.7.3?
If you have the UI, but cannot download, are there specific sites you cannot download from?

Not sure if this is what you mean...but when I try Video Downloader on YouTube clips I get a popup window telling me nonsense like this:

----
Warning: main(youtube_get.inc): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/.decca/javimoya/videodownloader.net/vd/test.php on line 5643

Warning: main(youtube_get.inc): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/.decca/javimoya/videodownloader.net/vd/test.php on line 5643

Warning: main(): Failed opening 'youtube_get.inc' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/.decca/javimoya/videodownloader.net/vd/test.php on line 5643

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: youtube_get() in /home/.decca/javimoya/videodownloader.net/vd/test.php on line 56

Or is that something completely different...?!

MILE,

Thanks for the information. However, those seem to be errors in the extension's website, not the extension. It seems to me that the extension goes through its website to offer the download. I am not sure how this works, but it looks like there are some errors on their website.

I'm not even sure what using videodownloader means... it's never done anything, negative or positive, except sit as an apparently happy icon in my extensions list. No errors, no buttons, no nothing.

I tried it before upgrading and it didn't do anything then either. (0.7.1 to .3, manually)

All of my extensions (this is a longer list than before, with 0.7.1 I only had videodownloader and session manager)
session manager 0.4.1.1
adblock v.5 d3 * nightly 42
stumbleupon 2.78
download statusbar 0.9.4
customizegoogle 0.49
flashblock 1.5.1
another delicious sidebar 1.0
cutemenus - crystal svg 1.2
forecastfox 0.9.2
superT 0.7.9.1

it's annoyingly difficult to just get the url of embedded videos... even with flock i still gotta search the page's html, which makes things like dabble such a hassle. flash is one thing, but other embedded videos really ought to be drag and drop in flock, and snip-able

hiYo!!

but what are the options to find a way to download a video when

ERROR:Fatal error: Call to undefined function: youtube_get() in /home/.decca/javimoya/videodownloader.net/vd/test.php on line 56

is shown...It's in youtube that i wanted to download a song !

Is it just the website*youtube's error or what is it?

Do reply please!

Thanks....

August 1, 2006 - 9:29am

Hi sushie,

Whenever those errors appear, I think they are errors on Videodownloader's site, because the errors talk about their site. But I am not sure if that is correct or not.

Yeah Ive been getting the Ftal Error too...
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: youtube_get() in /home/.decca/javimoya/videodownloader.net/vd/test.php on line 56

But I downloaded a vid just the other day. This problem only popped up like 2 days ago. :(

Ditto as oICEMANo ... Yesterday I could download ... Today I can't. And nothing has changed on my system since. No updates, no newly installed software, nada.

I remember reading that YouTube was going to change some background coding to prevent the download of their videos. I wonder if they finally got something in place.

Doesn't anyone know what's wrong? I've had the same problem, but it came up just recently. I've been able to download videos off youtube all the time.

I'm in agreement with eletido ... From the error we all seem to be getting (seen below) ... it specifically pointing at "videodownloader.net" and "test.php". Seems like someone on VideoDownloader was testing out new code and forgot to put back the working one. Hopefully they will realize it soon from all our posts. i need my fix! =)

Hey guys,

Checking out the Firefox extension comments it looks like YouTube somehow prevents Video Downloader from working with the videos hosted there. This site has some workarounds, but it looks like for the time being, Video Downloader doesn't work on YouTube.

Please note that I don't endorse downloading videos from them. Please read the YouTube terms of service before you make a decision to try any method.

So what does this downtime of videodownloader.net tell us? I think the use of client-based scripts seems to be advisable for several reasons:

  1. With webservices like keepvid or videodownloader you are screwed whenever their website is down or slow.
  1. YouTube et al. can easily block an IP range used by services like keepvid or videodownloader so that they cannot retrieve download URLs from the video sites. With client-based scripts this issue doesn't exist.
  1. Keepvid and youtube (can) log your video downloads. This may not matter to a lot of people but no such potential invasion of privacy exists with scripts that retrieve the download URL without sending information to download webservices.
  1. Client-based scripts are open-source and you may be able to fix them yourself in case of a video site changing its code. Why is that relevant? If videodownloader shuts down, you have nothing. If a script author drops a script, you still have the code to work with.

That being said have a look at these sites:

a) Google Video Getter by Joshua Kinberg
b) All-In-One Video Scripts by 1024k.de

"Fatal error: Call to undefined function: youtube_get() in /home/.decca/javimoya/videodownloader.net/vd/test.php on line 56"

Videodownloader is good when it works. I personally find it quite unreliable, and there are privacy issues with javimoya.net hosting the backbone of the service :-(

September 24, 2006 - 8:29pm

Reyyan: you should rename the "get_video" file to "filename.flv" when downloading from YouTube - that should do the trick ;)

Dear panggih,
I had that problem today. I've tried to repair it for 3 hours. :) I removed all mozilla's extensions at last and that's why downloading is OK now.
But... I can't get song of The Kinks called "All day..." I don't want why. It's OK with other "my" songs. :)

The Error which states:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: youtube_get()...

Can be jogged by simply using the companion site for the Mozilla Video Downloader, which you can get to with this link: http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php

I was having the same problem, and could not get videos to download directly through the youtube site with the plugin. It does work though when you work around it.

Showing my ignorance here: what do you mean by "I removed all mozilla's extensions". What and where are these extensions?

is it just my one or did ifilm stop people downloading of their site???

Well the thing is that as more and more people download these videos from youtube, they are bound to have a "tad" problem with their bandwith. that being said the things that one can do to donwload a file;

- wait until the video is fully loaded
- refresh if desperate
- try installing video downloader again
- Forget about it youre going to forget the video anyways.

DrLex

November 17, 2006 - 8:57am

Why would they have more problems with their bandwidth if people downloaded the movies once to watch them offline multiple times, instead of re-streaming them every time? It's not like Youtube has loads of ads which will produce revenue every time someone reloads a video.
It's more likely that they will prevent downloading because of copyright issues.

i'm using FF 1.5 with Win98SE , the extension are adblock, sessionsaver, fasterfox and videodownloader. the videodownloader works fine. That "strange thing" happens when the same browser setup is running on my XP machine..

Hi everybody!
Please help me with Videodownloader...
1. I choosed the Link for installing the add-on. Fine.
2. The Add-on seems to be installed, but: there is no symbol where it should be.( in the right-down corner???)
3. Then I try to change the settings of Videodownloader, but: after clicking settings...nothing works anymore.
so i have to shut down firefox...
I think that isnt't the way it's meant to be?^^

I would love to see a solution to download vidilife videos. They got rid of their option to play videos in WMV. Videos are only in flash and I have tried numerous downloaders and none of them work. With videodownloader, I paste the link and it says invalid link.

Do you have any idea of how this stuff works???

Well, about one year ago I read the sourcecode of the page and downloaded the file manually, to change its name to bla.flv or something. but now youtube changed their code, so you can`t even get the file mannually. They just edited the way their videos were implemented to the source. Blocking IPs has nothing to do with it.
In former Times there was 'player2.swf?v="http://blabla/get_video"' but now it is "player2.swf?v=9Fg4fghs" or someting similar. When it is "http://blabla/get_video", you can downlad it, but without the URL you can't do anything.

Hope you see the problem...

Anytime I try to read TMZ blog posts or 'refresh' I get Windows Internet Explorer pop up error "out of memory on line 56".....odd, just happened out of the blue today. I have defragged, checked memory and I'm stumped. Any ideas?

jeremy

July 1, 2007 - 8:18pm

Hi Heather,

It would be great if you could clarify a few things:

  • You appear to have used Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 to post your comment here. Is that the browser you were using at the TMZ blog when you encountered this issue? Do you use Flock? If so, which version? (go to help -> about in flock and copy the string there that starts with Mozilla/5.0)
  • Do you have Firefox installed? Which versions? What happens when you view the same site in Firefox?
  • What's the address for the TMZ blog? is there anything specific you have to do to reproduce the error? can it be reliably reproduced?

Thank you.

Same here, today it won't let me download, while it always has in the past. I've now added Fast Video Download, which is better for Youtube as no renaming etc as it downloads flv file in its original name.
