My name is Shawn Hardin, and I accepted the role of CEO at Flock two months ago. I joined the team because I passionately believe in Flock’s unique opportunity to innovate and launch a product (and a platform) that will enrich the connected experience for millions of people around the world. I also joined Flock because of the rare talents of our employees, the strength of our community, strong interest from partners and users in adopting future versions of Flock and, last but not least, the Flock brand.
The primary goal I’ve set for the company in 2007 is to transform us from a great idea company into a world-class innovation and execution company. To achieve this goal will take a lot of teamwork, and it won’t happen overnight. Our commitment is first and foremost to innovate in a conversation with our user and developer community – at Flock, we’re about giving people compelling products to use, listening to feedback, and learning how we can continue to dramatically enhance our users' connected lives. We have much work to do, and the time is now to execute on this promise.
Geoffrey Arone is a visionary who ignited the social web browsing revolution at Flock, and he was a member of the core team that recruited me to the company. The intent of the company’s board, along with Geoffrey, has always been to bring in new talent to introduce the product to a broader consumer marketplace, and grow Flock to the next level. To that end, I am sharing today the news that Geoffrey Arone will be transitioning into a new role at Flock, and opening up an exciting new chapter in his career by working directly with one of our board members at Bessemer Venture Partners.
Geoffrey co-founded Flock, pioneered a revolutionary new approach to social web browsing, and will remain an important part of the company’s heritage as well as a key advisor to me as we focus on building and shipping our 1.0 version as well as activating our many exciting partnerships.
We ask for your continued dedication and support, and I look forward to your comments and continuing feedback on Flock in the months and years ahead.
Here’s to much success together in 2007 and beyond! Happy New Year.

Shawn, thanks for the kind words. Folks, please know that I am and always will be a flocker. As I said on TC, Bessemer is one of Flock's earliest investors, and I will continue to assist Flock while working there. Flock is in pure execution mode and has a couple of significant deals lined up for 2007. I will still be very involved with the company and assisting on a regular basis.
Congrats Geoffrey! I can't wait to try out Flock 1.0 - it's already my browser of choice.
Why is it taking so long to relase the product? Isn't it way past due already?
Hey your name,
Since Shawn joined us, we've been working towards a defined set of features for 1.0 (we just had too many good ideas), at which point we will kick into action and put a product out. Shawn has said again and again that he is here to get Flock 1.0 released. Things have been progressing at an incredible rate and we should have a clear view of what 1.0 is soon. As soon as I know, I will let you all know.

You're right: we are late delivering 1.0 -- we have received a tremendous number of great ideas from this dynamic community, and we are taking them into account, but that means we have had to delay our launch. We've already got a set of new features integrated - including being on top of FF 2.0 and better bookmarks - so look for news soon on how we plan to release a version of Flock with those benefits, as we move along the path as quickly as possible to 1.0.
We appreciate and share your eagerness to see 1.0 launched!!!
Man, I can't WAIT for version 1.0! I do understand why its late and for me what makes up for it is the fact that there will be tons of new features.
Keep it up Flockers!

looking forward to 1.0 like everyone else, good luck with your new position geoffrey!
Congratulations to both Mr. Hardin and Mr. Arone.
I'm really enjoying Flock, even if it isn't 1.0. When I first started using Firefox and learned of 'extensions', I was totally thrilled. But after a few months, of FF, I stumbled upon Flock and have been hooked since.
Keep up the great work! Flock has helped me re-connect with the joy of the internet.
Best Wishes,
Rice
Congrats - hope to see 1.0 soon (I think)
I've been using Flock since about the 0.5 days I and fell in love with it the instant I saw how it organized favorites. That is hands-down my favorite aspect of Flock and why I use it primarily over Firefox. I love having the menu on the favorites bar where I can make categories for all my subjects. It's so organized - completely top-notched. Now I read in a comment above that the way favorites are organized might be changed and now I may not be looking forward to 1.0 as much as I have been! I plead that you keep the categories list!
The other part of Flock that I instantly liked was the GUI (the old and new). I tried out all the social aspects of Flock and while nice I never really used them too much. I liked the blogging aspect of it but it was too buggy and didn't work very well in Wordpress 1.X.
Your team would probably hate to hear this, but I'd love an extension for Firefox that would make it's bookmarks act like your favorites. I do though like having Flock and Firefox as I use both together - one for business and one for personal use running simultaneously.
My two other suggestions is:
1) Make SURE Tab Mix Plus works with Flock - I haven't used Flock heavily for months because using it causes the favorites toolbar not to work. People LOVE Tab Mix Plus and I'm sure there are many who don't use Flock because TMP doesn't work. There were plenty that didn't upgrade to Firefox 2.0 until TMP was compatible.
2) Make the search bar work like Firefox's. It's very confusing to have both different and the functionality of Firefox's is much more intuitive and I don't see any advantage in they way Flock's works whatsoever. It's very annoying to have to write the text, open a tab, and then select the search engine.
Thanks for taking consideration of any suggestions and keep Flock going strong!
I read in these comments that you guys have done a lot of work on how Favorites/Bookmarks are handled. I'm not sure what you've done, but I wanted to point out a Firefox addon called del.icio.us Bookmarks that functions in a way that I hope yours does. It might be worth checking out to see if they've done anything that you might want to borrow. One of my favorite things is the Tags View that lets me choose favorite tags that will then show up in the Bookmarks Toolbar. So my toolbar will show me pulldowns of my favorite tags.
